How your affiliate creates their links

Introduction

Your affiliate may ask for assistance in creating affiliate links that earn them commission.  This document helps you learn how to create affiliate links.

Affiliates are different than sub-wholesalers in that they refer people from their Web site to your Web site, and if the visitor purchases, you pay commission on the purchase.  A sub-wholesaler actively sells products, probably face-to-face at trade shows, flea markets, home parties, etc.  Someone can be both a sub-wholesaler and an affiliate.

Instructions

Step 1:  Sign in as an approved affiliate account

First, sign on to the web site with an affiliate account that has been approved by the web site manager.  (See Add or Edit Affiliates)   This is done through the Join Affiliate Program Link and not from the My Account link from your main web site pages.

The affiliate must sign in with the affiliate account, not a shopper account.  From the Affiliate page, use the  button to sign in to the affiliate account.

Step 2:  Create Links

Click the Create Links link.

Choose what type of link you would like to create by selecting it on the Create Affiliate Link menu.

Home Page will direct a customer to the home page of your e-commerce site.

Store Directory Page will direct the customer to the a listing of available departments.

Department Page will send a customer to a particular department.

Product Page will direct the customer to a specified product.

Assuming the goal is to create a Product Page link, choose the Product Page option on the Create Affiliate Link menu.

Next, select which department you would like to direct customers to.  For this example, we will choose Lawn Ornaments.

Now choose which product you would like to direct your customers to.  For this example, we will choose the Distressed Ivory Metal Trellises.

On the next page, choose between the available links.

Affiliate Only Link is the standard affiliate link to place on the affiliate’s Web site.

Affiliate + User Link is used when the affiliate has a sub-affiliate.

Image Link is the location of the product picture.

In general, your affiliate will use the Affiliate Only Link.  They should copy the link (by highlighting it and pressing CTRL+C, or by right-clicking on it and selecting Copy Shortcut) and then paste it as an HTML code on their own Web site.

Any customers that follow that link to the e-commerce site, and purchase on that visit, will earn commission for the affiliate.  To learn more about affiliate commissions, please see the other Affiliate topics.
