Navigation Bar

Introduction

This article will help you learn how to manage your navigation bar.

The navigation bar is a part of your Web site that your visitor uses to navigate around your site.

The navigation bar is not:

·         the product or department listing

o       This is managed by changing the departments on your site

§         See the departments links on this page for more information about changing your departments

·         the abbreviated (short) list of navigation links on some layouts

o       the short list of links is a function of the layout itself

§         To change the layout or your site, click the Style & Color link in your Site Manager, and then click New Layouts

§         Use layouts numbered 56-65 to utilize all the Version 7 features

The navigation bar is a longer list of options with options such as Home, View Cart, Shipping, Promos, Products, Check Out, etc.

It does look different, and may show up in different places, depending on which layout you assign to your site.

The example shown to the right is on layout 59.

Instructions

To make changes to your navigation bar, sign in to your Site Manager and click the Navigation Bar link.

Add a new item

To add a new option to your navigation bar, use the blank area at the top titled “Add a new tab in the navigation bar.”

Order determines in what order the options are displayed on your Navigation Bar (which item is displayed first, which is second, etc.).

Make sure you do not use an Order number already in use by another menu option.

The text link your visitor clicks on to steer through your site.

Enter the Web address (URL) or .asp code into the URL field.  This is where your visitor will go when they click on this link.

To have the link point to an existing page on your site (such as the home page, the view cart page, etc.) see the bottom of this article for the correct URL to add.

The remaining fields (Font HTML, Background Color, and Background Img) are not required, and most people do not use them.  They allow you to change the colors of the link or the background color, and you must use HTML codes to specify the colors.  For a list of these colors, please see this handy Web reference.

When finished adding the information, click the  button.

Change existing item

First, find the existing navigation item you would like to change.  Eight (8) items show on this page in Site Manager, so you will need to change to other pages to see the rest.  Use the  and  buttons to view the other pages.

Change the information in the fields, and then click the  button on the same line.

eMC .asp Codes

Use these codes in the URL field when adding or editing a navigation bar link which should point to a eMC page on your site.
